On Saturday 24th April the Garstang Oxfam Group ran a Conflict Campaign Stall to collect signatures and photographs for the Oxfam Million Faces Petition. The event was a great success.
The normally shy people of Garstang responded in fine style and over 40 images and 100 signatures were obtained including that of local M.P. Hilton Dawson. The group chairperson Graham Hulme commented “It is easy to think that individuals can do nothing to influence world events. However, without trying nothing will be achieved and we have historical evidence from the abolishment of slavery and recent successes in the Land Mines campaign that together ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference”.
The Million Faces petition is a part of the Oxfam Cut Conflict Campaign. This is a global campaign led by Oxfam and Amnesty International. The aim is to obtain one million images of people showing their support for a global Arms Treaty that will bring the trade in weapons under control.
